Design

By finding and furnishing gorgeous properties, Progetto creates the feel of architect-designed interiors at affordable prices. Progetto will start with move-in ready apartments, touching only paint, tile, fixtures, and furniture, with brand partnerships to reduce expenses.

We’ll finds spectacular backdrops in beautiful town piazzas, palazzos, restaurants, museums, cathedrals, countrysides, olive groves, vineyards, and nearby cities.

Our interiors moodboard: Modular kitchens. Judicious local marble use. Ceramics. Classical minimalism; contemporary maximalism. Apartamento. Neptune Papers. ARK Journal. Wood. Plaster.

Experience

We’ve built a strong portfolio by renovating and furnishing on a shoestring. Julian’s initial four Catskills homes were gut renovated and furnished with a $50k total budget each, and the motel was renovated and furnished for about $75k. See, e.g. The Scribner Hollow Post.

He also bootstrapped a furniture and interiors label with designer Kai Avent-deLeon that sold about 300 units of objects and innovative flatpack furniture featured in Architectural Digest, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Clever, and was named the “the best place in New York for an objet d’art.” (N.Y. Mag. March 2021).

Now, for Italy.

Our initial stone farmhouse sits in incredible olive groves near Orvieto. The home sits on a hilltop above the incredible World Wildlife Fund bird sanctuary: a last gathering point of the Tiber before it flows into Rome.

All day, birds fly up the mountain toward two ancient castles—critical outpost over the river since the 9th century occupied by figures like Cesare and Lucrezia Borgia. St. Francis hung out in a grotto a short walk away; the local water is blessed. A town over, he miraculously quieted the birds in the local castle’s church, where there is an incredible museum. An hour on red clay with the local tennis pro is 15 euro.

Hilltop restaurants dot in the towns over the countryside, serving truffles, boar, and pigeon for a song—including Tucci favorites in Orvieto, which has a minor Florentine duomo and upscale new spots like Palazzo Petrus. If you can afford it, Reschio ain’t far—but I can’t afford it.

Or you can just drop into Rome for dinner in an hour—car or train. Word is the eternal city has some new spots.

And—

When you own a home in Italy, you really can just throw your Italian bike on the back of your Fiat and hit the autostrada for: Tuscany, with Slim Aarons-favorite beaches in Porto Ercole, Florence, Milan, Lake Como, the Italian Riviera, the French Riviera, and, of course, Switzerland. (Or Liguria, Cataluna, wherever.)

Go for a drive.
